Certified Nurse Aide

Nurse Aides provide direct personal care to patients in various healthcare settings. Courses will be held in the LISD classroom with clinical instruction at a long-term care facility. Those successfully completing the program will be eligible for State Certification testing. This is an 80-hour course; dates vary. Call for a complete schedule and refund policy.

Students must submit to fingerprinting, provide current two-part Tuberculin skin test results, and COVID-19 vaccination card.

Clinical Medical Assistant Program - With Clinical Externship

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes, among other things, preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture, hands-on labs, and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider.

NWCA National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Clinical Medical Assistant (CMAC) Exam.

NHA National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

Clinical Externship: This program includes a 160 hour clinical externship opportunity. To be eligible for the clinical, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening, and meet other requirements.

Medical Administrative Assistant Program - With Clinical Externship

This 50-hour course prepares students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. Medical Administrative Assistants, Medical Secretaries, and Medical Records Clerks are all positions in great demand. This program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management, and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that a student can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in the health care field.

NWCA National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Clinical Medical Assistant (MAAC) Exam.

National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) - Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam.

Clinical Externship: As part of this Medical Administrative Assistant program, you will be eligible to participate in a 40-hour clinical externship.

American Sign Language 1

ASL is the third most widely used language in the U.S., using the combination of hand signs, gestures, and facial expressions. Finger-spelling, numbers, basic grammar, vocabulary, and cultural information related to the deaf community will be covered. Children 12 or older are welcome and must enroll with an adult. Textbook is included in registration fee.

TestOut Microsoft Office Software Certification

Learn, practice, and master Microsoft Office 2016 applications.  Simulated labs provide a realistic learning environment giving you hands-on experience and instant feedback to become proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and  Access.  Our onsite instructor is available during course time to guide you through the lessons and answer any questions you may have.  Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible to take an exam through TestOut certify-ing proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Prerequisite: Familiarity with basic computer skills.  An additional (approximate) 3-4 hours of homework per week will be necessary to complete all applications. Access to a computer and the internet outside of course is required.

Microsoft Office Certification - One Step

Only need training or certification in one application?  One Step offers you the same training as the Microsoft Office Certification course but you choose one program to focus on. Select from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.  Prerequisite: Familiarity with basic computer skills.  An additional (approximate) 2-3 hours per week of homework will be necessary to complete each application.  Access to a computer and the internet outside of course is required.

Adult Learning Services @ LISD TECH Center continue to partner with the Academy for Manufacturing Careers to increase skills of our local county residents and meet demands of our local workforce.

Adult Learning Services @ LISD TECH Center, in partnership with local employers, works to offer hands-on training in manufacturing trades. Pathways offered include Skilled Trade Apprenticeships, certificates, and customized training.

Offered at the LISD TECH Center, these programs are under the direction of the Academy for Manufacturing Careers (AMC), a nationally-recognized training institute, and provide high-quality technical instruction for in-demand manufacturing occupations. Certified as a provider of Registered Apprenticeship (USDOL-OA), AMC is approved as a licensed Proprietary School by the State of Michigan.

Lenawee Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning is the “ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated” pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. Therefore, it not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship, and personal development, but also self-sustainability, competitiveness and employability.

Lenawee Lifelong Learning is a program for adults in Lenawee County. They offer learning opportunities on a variety of topics and are supported by several local organizations, including the LISD. Instructors will be either active or retired individuals who are donating their time. No tests, no grades, just fun and learning. Most courses are being scheduled during daytime hours. Course size will be limited, so please sign up early. A listing of available courses can be found on the Lenawee Lifelong Learning website or by calling Don Taylor at 517.403.4469.
